Bilang : This word is the most basic and direct way of saying “to say” or “to tell.” It’s commonly used in everyday conversation and is straightforward in its meaning.

Contoh : 

  • “Dia bilang dia mau datang ke pesta besok.” (He said he will come to the party tomorrow.)
  • “Tolong bilang terima kasih ke ibumu buat makan malamnya yang enak.” (Please say thank you to your mother for the delicious dinner.)

Bicara: “Bicara” translates to “to speak” or “to talk.” It typically implies a more extended or formal conversation. You might “bicara” during a meeting, presentation, or discussion.

Contoh : 

  • “Saya harus bicara dengan bos tentang proyek ini.” (I need to talk to the boss about this project.)
  • “Mereka sedang bicara tentang rencana liburan musim panas.” (They are talking about their summer vacation plans.)

Bercerita : This word means “to tell a story” or “to narrate.” It often involves recounting events or experiences in a structured or chronological manner.

Contoh : 

  • “Dia suka cerita tentang pengalaman travelingnya di luar negeri.” (She enjoys telling stories about her travel experiences abroad.)
  • “Kakek saya sering cerita tentang masa mudanya.” (My grandfather often tells stories about his youth.) 

Mengatakan: “Mengatakan” is similar to “bilang” in that it means “to say” or “to tell.” However, it can sometimes convey a slightly more formal tone.

Contoh : 

  • “Dia mengatakan kalo ujian akan di-reschedule.” (He said that the exam will be rescheduled.)
  • “Dia tidak pernah mengatakan apa yang sebenarnya terjadi.” (He never said what really happened.)

Ngomong: This is an informal or colloquial way of saying “to talk” or “to speak.” It’s commonly used in casual conversations among friends or peers.

Contoh : 

  • “Aku nggak bisa ngomong bahasa Cina.” (I can’t speak Chinese.)
  • “Dia ngomong apa ke kamu?” (What did he say to you?)

Ngobrol: “Ngobrol” means “to chat” or “to have a conversation.” It’s often used in a relaxed or informal setting, such as catching up with friends or engaging in small talk.

Contoh : 

  • “Kita bisa ngobrol sambil minum kopi di kedai itu.” (We can chat while drinking coffee at that cafe.)
  • “Mereka lagi ngobrol tentang apa” (What are they chatting about?)
